Cheryl Wilson Janasak
Cheryl Wilson Janasak spent her 37 years of teaching at the elementary, middle school, and high school levels. She spent her last 24 years of teaching at Garland High School and retired after 18 years as the Director of Choirs. She now serves as a consultant and mentor in multiple school districts. She is a frequent clinician, adjudicator, and workshop presenter on topics of sightreading,tone,repertoire and musicianship.
During Janasak’s tenure at Garland HS, the Acappella Choir and Acappella Women were named a TMEA Invited Choir on four occasions along with her Acappella Choir from Lyles Middle School. Her choirs won numerous festivals, were consistent UIL Sweepstakes recipients,had over 100 All Staters in her tenure, and her Acappella Choir experienced three international tours.
Ms. Janasak served her church as Youth Choir Director, Youth and Children’s Handbells Director and as a Children’s Choir Coordinator.
Professional service includes serving TCDA as the MS Vice President and Secretary,serving as TMEA Region 3 Vocal Chair, and TMAA Vocal Vice President. In July of 2015, the TCDA presented Ms. Janasak with the Texas Choral Excellence Award, recognizing her contributions to music education, mentorship, inspiration to colleagues and students, and advocacy for the future of choral singing.
