Janet Menzie recently retired from a 36-year career in music education. She was head choir director at Clements High School in Fort Bend ISD (2015-2023), Beckendorff Junior High (2004-2015) and Mayde Creek Junior High (2003-2004) in Katy ISD. Prior to public school, Mrs. Menzie taught voice, piano, and Kindermusik in her music studios in Southern California, West Texas, and Anchorage, Alaska (1985-2001). Choirs under her direction performed at TMEA (CHS Concert Chorale 2020), two ACDA Southwest Division conferences (CHS Chorale Women 2020 and BDJH Varsity Treble 2012), MS/JH National Conference for Choral Music (BDJH Varsity Mixed 2012), Houston Chamber Choir’s “Hear the Future” (CHS Concert Chorale 2020), Houston Choral Society’s “A Glorious Christmas” (CHS Concert Chorale 2019), and UH Moores School of Music HS Invitational (CHS Concert Chorale 2016). During her tenure, she served as clinician/conductor for the OkCDA All-State JH Mixed Chorus, TMEA Region 13 JH Mixed Choir, and the University of Oklahoma Women’s Choral Leadership Conference. She served as TMEA Region 13 Vocal Division Chair from 2019-2022 and has been a presenter at TMEA and CEDFA conferences. Awards include Clements HS and Fort Bend ISD Teacher of the Year (2019-2020) and Region IV Teacher of the Year (2021).
