JD Janda
JD Janda has served as a fine arts educator for over 42 years and retired in July 2023 from his position as Director of Fine Arts in Tomball ISD. In that role, he supervised all K-12 Art, Dance, Music, and Theater programs. Prior to his service in Tomball, Janda served six years as Director of Fine Arts and Curriculum in Georgetown ISD. JD graduated from Southwestern University in 1981 and began a 28-year career as a Texas high school band director – 22 of those years in Katy ISD. He holds a Masters Degree in Educational Management from the University of Houston/Clear Lake.
JD is a Past President of TMEA, Past President of TMAC and Past TMEA State Band Chair. In 2013 Janda served on the small TEA select committee to create the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). In February 2023, he was recognized as the Outstanding Administrator for the Texas Fine Arts Administrators and in July of 2023 received the Administrator Lifetime Achievement Award from the Texas Bandmasters Association. JD and his wife of 36 years, Nancy, are the proud parents of Jane and Gordon, both Texas Band Directors.
