H. Morris Stevens, Jr., Ph.D., is currently the Head of Music Ministry at St. Theresa Catholic Church and School in Austin, Texas. He directed high school music programs in Texas for 33 years. During those years he co-founded and directed two Fine Arts Academies in Austin and Round Rock, Texas. After retiring from public schools, he became Head of the Music Department at St. Edward’s University for 14 years. He currently serves as a Field Supervisor for the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin.
Professional service includes leadership positions in TMEA, TCDA, and the National Pastoral Musicians Association. Choirs under his direction have performed at TMEA, and NPM conventions. While at St. Edward’s University, he founded and still conducts the Masterworks Singers leading them to multiple international concert tours. Morris has served as a clinician for festival choirs in Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and New York.
In 2018 he received the Texas Choral Directors Choral Excellence Award for lifetime achievement.
He has collaborated with his writing partner Stan McGill on seven books published by AMC, and Hall Leonard on sight reading methods.
